SmaDoTec is opening a new chapter in innovative scale technology. Until now, scales have generally been connected to the RS485 field bus in a star configuration. In future, our scales can also be optionally operated on the EtherCAT bus.
What are the benefits of EtherCAT?
The RS485 fieldbus was developed in the last millennium and has undergone little further development. It is still based on the technology and specification from back then and is only used by most modern devices for reasons of compatibility, but generally without utilising all the advanced possibilities. The EtherCAT bus system is faster, more flexible to wire, easier to configure and more cost-effective than conventional fieldbus systems. At the same time, considerably higher transfer rates are achieved over longer distances with greater safety and less susceptibility to interference. There are also extensive diagnostic options that were difficult to access remotely in the past with conventional fieldbus systems. EtherCAT is tried and tested and has proven itself in series applications for years.

SmaDoTec now offers the EasyBatch product for discontinuous batch processes. EasyBatch runs on an industrial IPC under Windows 10 and offers all the functional add-ons that are already known from the continuous dosing control EasyControl. (Connection to control systems, process data visualization etc.) Operation takes place on a 12″ touchscreen monitor using a graphical user interface.
Two types of batch feeders are supported, the so-called loss-in-weight feeder (hereinafter referred to as LWB) and the gain-in-weight feeder (hereinafter referred to as GWB).
With the LWB, the dosing unit stands on a scale and doses a specified product quantity, e.g. into a collecting container. If the weight loss on the scale corresponds to the batch size, the batch process is terminated.
With the GWB, a volumetric dosing device doses into a collection container that is placed on a scale. If the increase in weight corresponds to the specified product quantity, the volumetric dosing device is stopped.
Most batch processes work in such a way that several dosing units dose into a kind of storage container in advance. The product is then dispensed from this storage container together with other dispensers according to a predetermined batch recipe into a collection container. It can be seen that each batch process can thus be represented by a kind of cascadable dosing network. EasyBatch allows you to graphically compile this network and run the batch processes according to definable sequences. You only need one controller for this and it does not matter whether the individual dosing unit is operated as an LWB or GWB is operated.

Feeders are extremely versatile machines for volumetric and gravimetric feeding of a wide variety of materials. Suitable bulk materials are powder, granules, flakes or fibers.
Materials with cohesive flow properties can also be precisely metered.
Bridge formation in the case of poor flow behavior is prevented by continuous movement of the flexible container wall by paddles. This ensures uniform screw filling and thus high metering accuracy at all times.

Hethon feeders are available in four different sizes. This results in an application range of approx. 0.1-25,000 l/h.
The devices are available with ATEX and/or FDA approval. Also variants with acid resistance as well as for high bulk material temperatures are available.
Due to an easy “removability” of the PU trough, a quick and easy cleaning is possible. In contrast to other, comparable devices from other manufacturers, the metering screw remains in the trough when it is removed, which also prevents product residues from escaping. This also makes it possible to easily change the troughs.
The original Hethon feeders are characterized by high reliability and a wide range of accessories. Different sizes of extension hoppers and a variety of dosing screws are available.
